Create a short video (3-5 minutes) telling us about a philosopher who is a member of a group that is underrepresented in philosophy.

The competition is open to all philosophy students, and all teams including a philosophy student.[1]
The best submissions will be posted on our King’s Philosophy blog and promoted around the faculty, the college, and (hopefully) far beyond.
The winning submission will be awarded a cash prize of £75.
We also hope to organise a screening event of the best submissions open to all staff and students later in the academic year.
The Videos
We’re particularly interested in hearing about Black, Asian, and other minority ethnic philosophers, although we welcome submissions about philosophers from any underrepresented group.
We’d like to hear about the philosophical ideas of your chosen philosopher, but it’s also fine to include biographical information about them if that works for your video.
You can create your video alone or in a team.
“Elevator pitch” style.
We would like to see some images of your chosen philosopher, but please be mindful of copyright permissions.
Submission
Submit your videos via the media assignment here by 16.00 on Friday 14th October 2022.
Why?
To learn about interesting philosophers!
To increase visibility of a more diverse group of philosophers, both within and beyond the department.
To highlight role models for students and early career philosophers.
To engage students with our ongoing work on decolonising and diversifying philosophy at King’s.
To develop transferable communication and digital skills.
[1] For these purposes, by “philosophy student”, we mean a student that has philosophy included as part of their programme. So that includes single honours philosophy, but also joint honours, PPL and PPE etc., as well as our PGT and PGR programmes.
